About Emotional Wellness Counseling, LLC.

Lauren Hubbard, LCSW, CAADC, CCDP-D, CPS

It is my hope to serve individuals who seek to address their mental, emotional, or behavioral difficulties, in a safe, casual, quiet, and comfortable environment. Over my years of practicing in various agencies, I started to recognize that patients are finding it more difficult to find smaller, personal practices. Many practices have combined, added multiple practitioners, or serve multiple ages, populations, and problems. Many patients have reported to me that such practices can feel too busy, noisy, and impersonal, particularly to those who have a history of trauma, anxiety, and depression. Some simply prefer or need more discretion when seeking treatment.

While there is no argument that having many practitioners under one roof can be convenient, some clearly prefer and/or benefit from a low-key, generally calmer environment, when they seek treatment for their mental, emotional, or behavioral difficulties. I decided to attempt to satisfy this preference, by electing to move my practice to what I believe is a cozy, country setting office practice. It is my belief this arrangement will generally reduce noise, limit the number of people in the building at one time, and encourage more privacy. My practice will likely appeal to those who prefer the way medical and psychotherapy offices used to be; smaller and more secluded than many of the other practices in the area today.

I have sought to ensure that my education (undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate) and experiences, were varied and practical, so that I could be truly effective when treating patients. I am a Masters Level, Delaware Licensed, Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), experienced in working with adults, couples, families, adolescents, and children. I have served patients in several agencies and levels of care in Delaware, including People’s Place, Psychotherapeutic Services, Catholic Charities, Alpha Behavior Health, A Center for Mental Wellness, and Mental Edge Counseling.

I am also a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC), Certified Co-Occurring Disorders Professional (CCDP-D) and a Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS), who has worked with many individuals to facilitate mental health and substance abuse recovery. In addition, I am certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) by the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA). As regards my training in Advanced Resolution Therapy (ART), I am a Basic ART Therapist. My experience ranges from routine outpatient therapy to the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) level of care, which served individuals with severe and persistent mental illnesses. I have also gained significant experience and perspective from holding a wide range of positions in the mental health field, including that of Residential Counselor, Case Manager, Assessor, Team Leader, Psychotherapist, and CADC Trainer. All of these experiences have contributed to me developing a wide range of skills, knowledge, and understanding of the difficulties faced when individuals have mental, emotional, or behavioral issues, which can interfere with daily functioning, important relationships, and an individual’s overall goals and development.

Whether working with individuals, groups, or staff, I have always been committed to the concept of recovery and partnership. I strive to empower patients to work towards wellness and independence. My approach to treatment is to provide a safe, non-judgmental, and collaborative environment, where patients can explore the areas they hope to improve or change. My orientation is strength based and eclectic, utilizing client centered approaches, EMDR models and protocols, cognitive behavioral techniques, insight-oriented explorations, motivational interviewing skills, and other evidence-based practices, depending upon the individual needs and goals of the patient.

When EMDR is an appropriate treatment modality, I use it in an integrative manner, and have successfully utilized EMDR protocols and techniques for a multitude of client issues, including trauma, anger, anxiety, stress, cravings, difficulty in coping, fear, behavioral problems, mood difficulties, grief, and self-esteem issues. My belief is that while effective therapy is work, it does not have to always feel that way. I try and make sessions comfortable, friendly, and relaxed, while still attending to the issues for which treatment is being sought.

My current focus is to provide individual therapy to adults only. Trauma, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, adjustment disorders, grief and loss, self-esteem difficulties, substance abuse recovery and relapse prevention, stress and coping difficulties, and behavioral issues are some of the concerns I address and treat. I strive to encourage patients to grow, heal, and transform themselves, as I view a person as being greater than his or her problems. I attempt to practice in a culturally and spiritually respectful manner, and encourage those with whom I work to be open about what they hope to achieve from therapy. I strongly encourage and solicit feedback to guide the therapeutic process, and to ensure that patients are satisfied with how our therapeutic work together is progressing.
